"Off We Go.... Into the Wild Blue Yonder"

Brevard Theatrical Ensemble wishes to thank Walter Kiely
for graciously sharing his pictures of our Story Tellers
at the
Florida Spaceport Chapter 99s May (2007) event at the
Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum.

We had such a grand time entertaining the real lady pilots in attendance
and many thanks to Bobbi Lasher for inviting us!

Harriet Quimby    1875-1912
First American woman to earn a pilot's license (August 1, 1911)

Jalane Johnson as Harriet Quimby

"If a woman wants to fly, first of all she must, of course,
abandon skirts and don a knickerbocker uniform."

There are Rules and there are Laws. The rules are made by men
who think that they know better how to fly your airplane than you.
The Laws (of Physics) were made by God. You can, and sometimes should, suspend the rules but you can never suspend the Laws,
however women have been pushing them right to the edge!

Ruth Law

First flight from Chicago to New York City

Ruth Law 1887-1970

"There is a world-old controversy that crops up
whenever women attempt to enter a new field.
Is a woman fit for that work?

It would seem that a woman's success in
any particular field would
prove her fitness for that work,
without regard to theories to the contrary."

Beryl Markham

First non-stop solo East to West Flight from England to North America

Ruby Albaugh as Beryl Markham

Beryl Markham 1902-1986

"I could never tell where inspiration begins and impulse leaves off.
I suppose the answer is in the outcome. If your hunch proves a good one, you were inspired; if it proves bad, you are guilty of yielding to thoughtless impulse."

Jacqueline Cochran

A former beautician, Founder and Director of WASP

Lizzy Seal as Jacqueline Cochran

Jacqueline Cochran 1910?-1980

"I can cure your men of walking off the [flight] program.
Let's put on the girls."

Doris Gonzalez - WASP
(Women Airforce Service Pilots)
Established in 1943

A "one day flight", covering 11,000 miles, 17 states, and flying 6 different aircraft.
(We did not name the person who made this flight, but one of the original WASP's,
Helen Snapp, who attended our show, was good friends with her!)

Ruby Albaugh - My first flight
Amelia Earhart 1897-1937

"After midnight the moon set and I was alone with the stars.
I have often said that the lure of flying is the lure of beauty,
and I need no other flight to convince me that the reason flyers fly,
whether they know it or not, is the esthetic appeal of flying"

Words and Music by Captain Robert Crawford, ©1939
as the "Army Air Corps Song." reportedly renewed 1977 by the USAF

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one heckuva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Dear Lady Gail,
You gals were GREAT!!!
Everyone really enjoyed the show, especially since they had no idea that these pioneer aviators would be there.

Thanks so much!
Bobbi Lasher
