Brevard Theatrical Ensemble, Inc. — Who We Are

"Thou Shalt Not..." is soon forgotten, but
"Once Upon a Time" lasts forever!

Philip Pullman (1996 Carnegie Medal Acceptance speech)

The Brevard Theatrical Ensemble, Inc. was formed by 'Lady' Gail Batty Ryan, and her sister, Mary Rae Batty Laham, 'The Duchess of Magpie'. The organization was their way to carry on the traditions of their family storytelling and give something worthwhile back to the community.

Brevard Theatrical Ensemble, Inc. (BTE, Inc.) was the first professional storytelling ensemble in the state of Florida, and has been dedicated to serving the Space Coast since its beginning in 1988. The members of the Ensemble have performed for more than 200,000 children and adults in Florida, South Caroline, California and Georgia. They've been on live television, and performed weekly on WFME (90.7 Orlando's NPR) National Public Radio for 3 years. They've performed at Disney's EPCOT Center and Nickelodeon Studios.

There are a variety of groups under the "umbrella" of BTE, Inc now... each with a different specialty. Many members belong to more than one of the divisions, depending on their interests and talents. Some are musical, some are historical, and all are always entertaining.

Take a look at what Brevard Theatrical Ensemble, Inc. has to offer by browsing each group in our site. And be sure to check in often to find out what's coming up next!

Before we sang, we spoke. Before we danced, we walked.
Before we wrote, we told stories. Before we told stories, we lived.

Those songs, dances and writings allow us to speak to one another across generations.

They gave us an understanding of our commonality long before the DNA told us we are all part of one glorious procession.

At any point on the timeline of human history, there are tales to be told of love and loss, glory and shame, profundity, and even profound stupidity, tales that deserve retelling and embellishing.

This is our story. This is our song. And when it is well performed, it tells us who we are and where we belong.
